Fund Raising – Valentine’s Day Cupcakes!

Another fundraising event proudly presented by Project Orange!

In lieu of Valentine’s Day, Project Orange sold Valentine’s Day cupcakes at NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences on 13th & 14th February from 11am to 6pm at the Deck and Central Forum respectively.

The cupcakes listed in the menu include: Valentine-themed cupcakes; red Velvet cupcakes; Earl Grey cupcakes; Chocolate Oreo cupcakes; Colored cupcakes and Snicky Carmelo cupcakes.

The yummy cupcakes supplied by Dolce Vita (http://www.dolcevita.sg/index.html) were well-received by the students! And we are proud to announce that all of our cupcakes were sold out on both days! Thank you to all our supporters for coming down specially to spread the love!

Please continue to support our future fundraising events! We hope to see you again!

Fund Raising – Newspaper Collection

As preparation for this collection started rather late, we could only managed 24 people and 20 blocks. For the next collection, we will start preparations earlier and maybe team up with other CIP groups so that we can cover a larger area.

Also, we will send out the flyers 2 weeks before as some reflected that they have sold their stuff already or had no sufficient time to prepare. We could also paste the flyer at the letterbox area to remind the residents of the upcoming collection. It was also brought to our attention that some residents left their old newspaper for us outside their door but were taken away by other rag-and-bone men. This is inevitable, but perhaps we could have more manpower next time to speed up the collection and reduce such cases.

All in all, given the amount of time we have, this collection went rather smoothly and everyone worked really well together and we are also really grateful to the friends who gave up their Sunday to join us in this event!

Fund Raising – CNY Goodies

Baking started 2 weeks prior to sale during the lunar New Year. The fundraising team took turns to bake the snacks, with the kind help of Joy’s mother.

With lack of previous experience in bake sales, we decided to keep this event small so that it will be easier for us to manage. As it was a small-scale event, we targeted only our friends and relatives. Together with the rest of the team, we managed to sell all of the baked goods and even had more demand than we could provide for.

Perhaps baking could start earlier next time so that we could bake more and target the school population/ professors instead, which was our original plan. However, having a larger scale event will definitely be more difficult to carry out and perhaps an online system to record all the orders would be more efficient. Also, if this bake sell were to be carried out on a larger scale, more publicity would have to be taken into consideration and order forms to be distributed.

Nevertheless, the sales were a success and we enjoyed baking the CNY goodies together!

PROJECT ORANGE 2012 IS RECRUITING!

If you’re interested, you can find out more about what we did in Project Orange 2011 and also what we plan to do in Project Orange 2012! Also, we’d like to share what inspired us to take on Project Orange 2012!

Thank you for the wonderful experience!

Team Project Orange is back in Singapore after an AMAZING 22 days in Sulawesi, Indonesia! It has been a wonderful experience of learning and self-discovery for me, which has exceeded my wildest expectations. I have seen the team grow in strength through this trip and I’m sure most of them will become more caring of the world around them!

At this point, I hope to thank the people who have helped to make this experience possible. First of all, Juliah Bee and Zhi Han for believing in our dream when it was just that.

The staff of ACRES, and in particular Charlene and Louis, for putting your support behind us and inspiring us with your passion.

Future Electronics, and in particular, Ms Janine Bates, for giving us a morale booster by being our first sponsor!

City Development Limited, and in particular, Ms Vivian Lim, for believing in us despite our lack of track record to become our biggest sponsor!

Dragos and Yumiko of Etrican for allowing us to present the wonderful organic tshirts for fund-raising, and for sponsoring our team tshirts.

And of course, the numerous friends, supporters and donors who have helped in one way or another. We thank you!

The Sumatran Tiger

The Sumatran Tiger reflects the prowess of the beast in nature but also aptly protrays the vulnerability of the creature in the face of humans.

Painted with an intricate batik motifs, it represents the origin of these tigers and the location of Project Orange’s conservation interest which is Indonesia.

Where’s the monkey?

The fast disappearance of species like the monkeys is reflected by the dotted lines, outlining the shape of the monkey. This signifies the urgency of protecting their habitat, the monkeys will disappear from the face of the Earth.

The mother monkey’s tails is held onto by the younger monkey, signifying how if we do not protect the current generation of monkeys (still shown in colour), we will not even get to see the next generation of monkeys.(thus shown in black or void)

Buddy Tree

Trees is the fundamental component of the entire ecosystem,  The design of “Buddy Tree” shows a single tree the midst of the entire barren landscape.

The caption of the tree asking for his buddy seems as a tongue-in-cheek reflecting the harsh actions of deforestation

The leopard prints have been cleverly integrated into the core of the tree, showing how much the wildlife that we are protecting is dependant on the trees, the forest for their own survival.

Come down to our roadshow at Orchard Central from 20-22nd May and get one for only $22 a piece.  Alternatively, you can also contact Qianqi at qianqi.gan@projectorange.sg to make a purchase online.

Thank you so much for your support! Every purchase makes a big difference to the wild lives in Tasikoki.
